Cembalet Piano Desk
A Quiet Homage to an Icon
The Cembalet Keyboard Desk is designed to house a high-end digital piano or MIDI controller within a single, composed form. Its design draws inspiration from the Hohner Cembalet — an iconic electro-mechanical keyboard from the 1960s — reinterpreted as furniture for contemporary music work.
Rather than referencing the past directly, Cembalet carries its influence through proportion, simplicity, and restraint. Clean lines and a balanced silhouette give the desk a calm presence in the room, allowing the instrument to remain the focus.
Designed Around the Instrument
At its center, Cembalet is shaped entirely around the keyboard it holds.
A hinged solid wood lid lifts gently and rests on an internal, tapered sheet music shelf crafted from a contrasting timber. Brass piano hinges introduce a subtle mechanical detail — functional, honest, and meant to be used daily.
When closed, the desk presents as a refined piece of furniture. When opened, it becomes an instrument-ready workspace — intentional, ordered, and quietly expressive.
Form, Material, and Care
Each Cembalet is built from hand-selected, grain-matched solid wood and made to accommodate the specific keyboard it houses.
Every edge and surface is shaped for touch. Every proportion is considered for balance and longevity. The materials are chosen to age naturally, developing character alongside the music made on it.
Cembalet is a place to play, practice, and compose — where furniture and instrument meet with equal consideration.
